Students in Male High School's orchestra program develop individual and ensemble musicianship skills.

They gain a continued study of historical and theoretical concepts. The orchestra performs several times per year.

J. ROBERT DIXON : DIRECTOR OF ORCHESTRA

We Welcome Mr. Dixon to Louisville Male as Director of Orchestra Fall 2017 Robert Dixon earned his bachelors of music education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Mr. Dixon grew up in Louisville and attended the Youth Performing Arts School where he performed in Carnegie Hall as well as at the Midwest Clinic. In his senior year, Mr. Dixon also was one of the winners of the YPAS Concerto Competition, performing the Dragonetti Double Bass concerto with the YPAS Philharmonia.

While in North Carolina, Mr. Dixon worked extensively on elementary string education with Dr. Rebecca Macleod and Mrs. Marta Richardson. His student teaching was comprised of teaching classes ranging from kindergarten to fifth-grade strings at Peeler Open Elementary in Greensboro North Carolina.

Mr. Dixon was a member of the Louisville Youth Orchestra for nine years. An avid supporter of elementary string education, Mr. Dixon is looking forward to working with the LYO Presto! Strings as well as teaching at Louisville Male High School.
